Dimmesdale's Terrors

Nathaniel Hawthorne created a vary disturbing character in Dimmesdale when he wrote The Scarlet Letter. I found myself challenged with how much I wanted to show and I felt it best to do it in a reflection of unseen, seen, paranoid delusions and remembrances that haunt a guilt-stricken priest.

Although the story is not as outrageous as when first written, the ideas are way ahead of their time, in terms of religion, humaneness and quality of life.

Original: $550, mid-sized painting, acrylic on board, double matted.
