Infinity Beach
This story by Jack McDevitt was pretty straightforward and I had very little difficulty coming up with our main character here - a very head strong, self-motivated young lady.
I sent a copy of this image to a good friend of mine, Jim Burns - an extraordinary illustrator in the UK and he offered me some constructive criticism on the piece. He told me that I should have added a bit more atmosphere and distance to the ship you see to the right, so that it would not look so small. I laughed when I got his response, because in actuality in the story the ship is only about a yard in length - it's a probe ship.
