Mother Moves InDeborah K. Wheeler wrote this intense emotional piece for Realms of Fantasy Magazine, and I was commissioned to do the interior illustration. Here was another one of those stories where I just did not know where to begin on capturing the emphasis of the story, however their were so many references to octopi, that I had to include them. The main character is estranged from her mother and has internal battles with how to deal with her mother's upcoming residency in the daughter's home. Their is a comparison drawn between the kind of nurturing octopi give to their young that is unparalleled with other species. The writer gives you some interesting insights not only on the coldness and distance between mother and daughter but also their own awareness of themselves as participants in the drama they themselves bring about. I was privileged to illustrate this piece, a very interesting story. Original: Available thru Figaro Gallery Acrylic on board |
