Solid StateThis is actually version two of a painting that was destroyed in shipping and though I was very unhappy with the destruction of the piece, I actually repainted a better solid state in this one. The idea for this piece did not come from H.R. Giger influence, it came from a photo I saw of the very first hair curling devices invented - they were wires connected to curling coils attached to a women's head and extending up to the ceiling to a plug- a very frightening image. So, I went with it and took it into a science fiction vein, here the woman has no hair so the wires are plugged into her brain. Actually, she is not a human but a cyborg of sorts. The painting technique I used was to take a large brush, dip it in paint and swirl it about on the surface of the board creating bubbles and haphazard textures, then I went back with an airbrush to define my shapes on top of that. |
